October 19 & 20 – Two days of sessions, workshops and co-located events

At this point everyone knows 2020 has been a "different" year, with more twists and turns, unforeseen changes and not-planned-for pivots than anyone could have possibly imagined.

So, given what has transpired over the last 5-6 months worldwide we've decided to change the 2020 conference format up a bit.

We've condensed the event down to two (2) days as we feel anything more than that is just too much. In addition, we've made every attempt to differentiate programming between the two days. We hope the result is something for everyone, regardless of career stage or open source experience level.

Monday, October 19 | 9:00 am - 6 pm ET

3 programs and co-located events + extended sessions and workshops will be featured. The result should be highly targeted sessions and topics along with tremendous networking opportunities, as well as hands-on technical and process deep-dives. *Please note a number of plenary keynote and featured session talks will take place on Monday also.

Workshops:

Extended sessions of 2.5 - 6 hours will take place focusing on process topics such as Open Source Licensing Strategy, Contribution Best Practices, Open Source Business Models, and more. Technical topics will be many, including an Introduction to Containers, Open Source Tools for Progressive Web Apps (PWAs), Open Source Application Security 101, Open Source Hardware, Machine Learning and AI, and more.

Community Leadership Summit (CLS):

The Community Leadership Summit 2020 brings together community leaders, organizers and managers and the projects and organizations that are interested in growing and empowering a strong community. The event pulls together the leading minds in community management, relations and online collaboration to discuss, debate and continue to refine the art of building an effective and capable community.

The event mixes together keynotes, unconference sessions, panels, and more to bring a rich set of content driven by a diverse audience.

Inclusion & Diversity in Open Source and Technology:

The 2020 inclusion event will again feature traditional talks, panels, and extended and group discussions around a variety of predetermined inclusion subtopics. Subject matter experts, community and company leaders, and technologists of all types are expected to attend and participate. In 2019 more than 500 attended the in-person event in Raleigh, NC. We're hoping for many more from all over the world in 2020.

DevOpsDays:

FOR THE FIRST TIME EVER DevOpsDays Raleigh will take place at All Things Open. The team at DevOpsDays will choose talks and coordinate content.  DevOpsDays offers technical and non-technical content for developers, system administrators and anyone else, whether expert or beginner, involved in technology. With technology and responsibilities crossing over departments and teams, DevOps is a movement that has rapidly spread through the technical community. DevOpsDays take place all over the world as self-organized events attended by community members who are passional about their work. The format of keynote presentations, ignites and open spaces is unique to this event. It is highly interactive and invigorating for attendees.

Tuesday, October 20 | 9:00 am - 6 pm ET

On Tuesday we'll return to a more traditional conference format with 15 minute keynotes, 30-45 minute featured sessions, and 45-90 minute sessions delivered by some of the most well known experts and thought leaders on earth. Breakout session talks will be clustered across 20+ tracks with each designed to provide content for everyone, regardless of job title.

New tracks to be featured on Tuesday:

Open Source Programs Office (OSPO):

With more of the world migrating to open source in one from or another, having the right policies, strategies and even personnel in place has never been more important. Enter the Open Source Programs Office, or OSPO. The track will examine OSPO's through stand-alone talks and panels, and will introduce you to the thought leaders leading the evolution.

International:

Open Source continues to enjoy explosive growth worldwide with more and more people contributing and participating in a variety of ways. We'll introduce attendees to thought leaders based outside of the U.S. on this track, which we hope will lead to more engagement, networking, and collaboration around the world. Speakers representing Africa, Asia, South America, Europe and other regions of the world will be featured.

Projects:

Open Source projects are "where the action is" and remain a source of innovation and opportunities to get involved. We'll take a close look at interesting projects on this track and introduce you to project maintainers, the people behind the projects, along the way. In our opinion, these people are the unsung heroes that make so much of open source possible. Know of a project we should feature? Drop us a line at [email protected].

Nonprofits:

The impact and role nonprofits play in the Open Source space cannot be understated. In short, they are vital. But who are they? We'll introduce attendees to a number of these organizations and the people behind them on this track.

Jobs:

Yes, we've always featured job openings at ATO in the past. However, we've found simple job postings often don't begin to "tell the whole story" and provide a comprehensive and clear picture regarding the opportunities presented. This track has been created to feature job postings from Open Source leading companies, but more importantly, to give attendees the opportunity to learn more than what is typically captured in a few lines of text and to meet the people behind them. Q&A is also encouraged.

News / Announcements:

Want to hear the "news" as it is announced, whether it be a new product or platform, or perhaps a new collaboration or partnership? Many indeed do, and this track is intended for them.

Live Coding:

Many of our technical sessions in past years have included live coding as a component of the overall talk, but this track is intended to showcase talks where the entire session is live coding. We feel it's fascinating and incredibly engaging to watch people code, and perhaps to even get some play-by-play and verbal context as it is happening. This track has been requested for years, and we're thrilled to finally make it happen. Know of someone who live codes and should be featured? Let us know at [email protected].
