Session: Contributor-Centric Systems: Design lessons from open source and nonprofit orgs
Building a system that invites and focuses on contribution as a feature is a multi-disciplinary skill (i.e. anyone can learn it) based on some trainable principles, and the benefits are significant with regards to scaling mindshare, functionality, and market benefit.
Both open source and nonprofit organizations (two areas where I’ve personally worked) have something to teach us about this topic, and the benefits from those sectors go far beyond those use case universes. My objective is to introduce a conversation that shapes the way my team works and could influence the way we build software, systems, and programs with and for our customers.
